Louise Hallett – "How we began"

"After 20 years working in the commercial art world (I had my own gallery in London through the 1980's, dealing in contemporary and 20th century art) I went into insurance in 1993 rather by accident ….. Somewhat surprisingly, one of the best things that ever happened to me!

I suffered a series of disasters in 1989 (3 big floods at the gallery, and an expensive stand at the Chicago art fair where my shipment never turned up) which cost me dear - experiences I would not wish on anyone! So now I work hard to protect all our clients from the risk of similar experiences.

After working for 5 years for a big firm of Insurance Brokers in the city, I started up Hallett Independent, which I am happy to say continues to grow and now we are a great team offering a great service!"

Carla started at Hallett Independent in February 2009. After studying in Bristol and working on short and feature films as an Art Director and Set Designer, Carla moved to London to continue this line of work. A great lover of performance art and theatre Carla has been involved in several productions at festivals as well as circus cabaret shows! Now happy to be back to Lymington, Carla is enjoying life in the country again.

David joined us in early 2008 to handle all our claims and surveys. He came to us with a wealth of experience in this field, having worked as a specialist art Loss Adjuster and Valuer in France for many years. He has a passionate interest in the arts, and keeps his hand in, dealing in 20th century & contemporary furniture and design, and is often to be found exhibiting or visiting trade fairs specialising in this field. David lives and works from his London base, but being French he still travels regularly back to France.

Hallett Independent's youngest recruit joined us in 2008, and is proving to be a real superstar. Avril has always had a keen interest in art and is a talented artist in her own right. She is pictured here whilst on holiday in Gambia showing her natural empathy for people and a love of travel. She is a keen supported of Unicef and has been involved in many fund raising events on their behalf.

Liz worked in International Trade for a bank before joining Hallett Independent in 2009. Along with her love of travel, she is also very artistic and loves making cards, jewellery, glass painting as well as watching live music and is shown here at the Isle of Wight music festival.

Camilla joined Hallett Independent in 2006 after 4 years at AXA Art, where she handled fine art claims and surveys. Her varied experience also includes working at the Tate Gallery, the National Museum and Gallery of Wales, Phillips Auctioneers and The Art Loss Register.

Happily she persuaded her naval husband, Stephen, to move to Lymington with their small daughter Imogen, so that she could join our team. Having had a second daughter, Robyn, Camilla is now working part-time developing the business side of Hallett Independent and supporting the work of the Account Managers.

Jackie joined the company in January 2009 as Finance Manager. Jackie's experience and expertise in small business finances comes from running her own printing business with her husband for 28 years. She loves spending weekends on her boat moored on the River Avon in Christchurch near her home.

Nathanael is now based in central London, having returned to work for Hallett Independent for a few months after some time travelling abroad. He has a first class degree in History of Art and Architecture and spends his time visiting as many galleries and exhibitions as possible and doing his own artwork.

To Louise, Hallett Independent is not just a job - it is a way of life and a pleasure. With clients all over the world her love of travel is easily satisfied. There is never a time when Louise is not at work; even when she's in Morocco (where she's recently built a house, and where she hopes to spend more time one day) she's always in touch with the business.

Carolyn joined the team in February 2008. Pictured with one of three men in her life, Rozzi; the other two, in order of priority, being Baldrick the wirehaired Daschund and her husband. She has moved around the UK many times as far reaching as North Wales and Kent but is now settled in the New Forest and brings to Hallett Independent experience of many different commercial environments.
