Meet our team

How we began ……
After 20 years working in the commercial art world (I had my own gallery in London through the 1980's, dealing in contemporary and 20th century art) I went into insurance in 1993 rather by accident ….. somewhat surprisingly, one of the best things that ever happened to me!

I suffered a series of disasters in 1989 (3 big floods at the gallery, and an expensive stand at the Chicago art fair where my shipment never turned up) which cost me dear - experiences I would not wish on anyone! So now I work hard to protect all our clients from the risk of similar experiences.

After working for 5 years for a big firm of Insurance Brokers in the city, I started up Hallett Indpendent, which I am happy to say continues to
grow and now we are a great team offering a great service!

Anita has the rather onerous task of looking after all aspects of Louise's life! She has joined us all the way from Durban, South Africa and we all hope we can find a way of extending her 2 year working visa … a husband could be the answer!

Michael is our Finance Director. He bought a house locally a few years ago and working for Hallett Independent has given him the excuse he has been looking for to move down here full time. He has 30 years experience in managing company finance and we are thrilled to have him.

Becky has been with Hallett Independent since 2004 having spent nine years in London as an Account Manager in branding and advertising, so she is no stranger to the buzzing atmosphere of an office like Hallett Independent. She is cool, calm and collected and brings a wealth of knowledge of account handling to the team. Becky moved to Lymington with her partner John, a yacht designer and their mad Black Labrador, Stella! In August 2007 Becky gave birth to her first child, a daughter Charlie. And now she’s on maternity leave till August 2008.

Laurie first joined Hallett Independent in 2003 and after a year in the job, she decided to go off and work in the Superyacht Industry and enjoy a life sailing around the Med/Caribbean and across the Atlantic. In between different jobs on boats she always came back to Hallett Independent, and is now back full time as an account manager and is very happy to be doing so, apart from the comparative lack of sun! Previous to that, she had a long career in the catering industry for about 10 years, and was a restaurant manager before joining the Hallett Independent Team in 2003. She studied art at a college and has just recently become a keen potter…. Watch this space!

Nathanael is Thomas’s brother, and with us for just a year, in between university degree courses. In September 2008 he’ll go back to University to study a Masters in History of Art. He’s already got a a First Class degree in History of Art and Architecture from Reading University, so he’s our walking reference library! He’s worryingly keen on psychoanalysis, so keeps us on our toes!

Camilla joined Hallett Independent in 2006 after 4 years at AXA-Art, where she handled fine art insurance claims and surveys. Her varied experience also includes working at the Tate Gallery, The National Museum & Gallery of Wales, Phillips Auctioneers and The Art Loss Register.

Happily she persuaded her naval husband Steve to move to Lymington with their small daughter Imogen, so that she could join our team.

She's just had a second daughter, Robyn, and is now back with us following her maternity leave.

She's now in charge of Administration for the business.

To Louise, Hallett Independent is not just a job - it is a way of life and a pleasure. With clients all over the world her love of travel is easily satisfied.

There is never a time when Louise is not at work; even when she's in Morocco (where she's recently built a house, and where she hopes to spend more time one day ….) she's always in touch with the business.

Thomas is a Director of Hallett Independent, and heads up our team of account managers. Before he worked in the art insurance world, he worked for 10 years in the restaurant business so has a wealth of experience in working with people, and offering a top quality service which he loves and takes pride in. He lives in Lymington and has a passionate interest in insects & reptiles! ..... which might account for his extraordinary attention to detail! And Thomas is brilliant at mending things, so has naturally become the office fixer!

David joined us in early 2008 to handle all our claims and surveys. He came to us with a wealth of experience in this field, having worked as a specialist art Loss Adjuster and Valuer in France for many years. He has a passionate interest in the arts, and keeps his hand in, dealing in 20th century & contemporary furniture and design, and is often to be found exhibiting or visiting trade fairs specialising in this field. David lives and works from his London base, but being French he still travels regularly back to France.

Carolyn joined the team in February 2008. Pictured with one of three men in her life, Rozzi the other two, in order of priority, being Baldrick the wirehaired Daschund and her husband. She has moved around the UK many times as far reaching as North Wales and Kent but is now settled in the Forest and brings experience of many different commercial environments.

Janet joined us as an account manager, in March 2007, bringing with her a wealth of experience in all sorts of areas! She’s worked for a PR consultancy involved in Arts sponsorship in London, she’s worked in insurance looking after client accounts, and she’s run her own company buying and selling businesses, and loss assessing on large corporate fire claims. She moved to the New Forest in 1998 and loves Lymington – one of her favorite places in the world! We are thrilled now that she’s putting all her experience to good use with us!
